The UK Government is cracking down on bogus colleges who often target overseas students and then fail to offer genuine study opportunities.

There is a new rule that from early 2009, no visas will be granted to foreign students who enrol with unaccredited colleges. In order to ensure genuine colleges will still be able to offer courses to overseas students, The Government has introduced a new scheme whereby it has identified 4 recognised accreditation bodies, namely:-

The Privy Council
The Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC)
The British Accreditation Council (BAC)
The British Council (for English Language courses)

Any college accredited by one of these 4 bodies is deemed to be genuine and students applying to these colleges should find the whole process of applying for a student visa much simpler.
